Before Attracting Birds, Keep Kitty Indoors

20150120Why attract birds to your yard only to seem them eaten by cats? If you want to install a feeder, a bird bath or make any other effort to attract birds to your yard, make sure that your cat stays indoors or, if it does go outdoors, that it’s tethered. House cats kill an estimated 3.7 billion birds annually in North America. It is believed that predation from domestic cats is the main reason why one North American bird species in three is in decline.

He is a past president of the Garden Writers Association (now Garden Communicators International) and the winner of the prestigious 2006 Garden Media Promoter Award offered by the Perennial Plant Association. He resides in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.
