Laidback Gardener Tip of the Day

Big Trees Come in Small Packages

20150505Did you know that, most of the time, young trees (seedlings or rooted cuttings) get off to a faster start and continue to grow with greater vigor than large caliber trees? As a result, 5 years later, you can often scarcely see the difference between a larger caliber tree that cost $125 and a young sapling that cost $ 2.50… other than that the little guy has often exceeded its big brother in size, strength and appearance!

Garden writer and blogger, author of 65 gardening books, lecturer and communicator, the Laidback Gardener, Larry Hodgson, passed away in October 2022. Known for his great generosity, his thoroughness and his sense of humor, he reached several generations of amateur and professional gardeners over his 40-year career. Thanks to his son, Mathieu Hodgson, and a team of contributors, laidbackgardener.blog will continue its mission of demystifying gardening and making it more accessible to all.
